Friday, January 21.
the morning, we prepare, always after breakfast, to go to Baltimore by bus. The maps are ready, with the addresses of key locations, including: a bar in which so-called Poe liked to go (which proved false in fact), the old hospital where Poe died, a tavern named Annabel Lee (their site is really nice too;)), where Poe has won an award for its new "MS Found in a Bottle" ("Manuscript Found in a Bottle"), and finally by Ezekiel statue of Poe.
On the bus, I realize that I do not have maps and addresses, I had to forget in the room ... Hem ... Instead of starting at the beginning, so we return to the tourist office to borrow a map ... It is not that fast for someone who is bored us put hands on it!
Then head for the old Baltimore, bar called The Horse You Came In On. It is closed, opened only 16h. Well, anyway, one we did not intend to drink 2, that Poe loved to go (or that's where it was found before being sent to the hospital) is only a rumor, a coup in attracting the world.
if you can still use the toilet. OK. And meanwhile, I take some pictures: p
Not sated but almost, here we are now en route to the place where Poe won a contest news ... This time we take the free bus, The Charm City Circulator; as you start to get tired and he does trrrrès cold outside, it is by bus:)
Unfortunately, without my notes, we did not find the exact location, and as we began to be frozen, it has not dragged on. Hop back in Charm City for the next stage: the statue!
Near the University of Baltimore lies in the fact statue Poe, by sculptor Moses Ezekiel. Statue which has had trouble reaching far because initially it was to be introduced in 1909, the centenary of Poe. As fate would have it is not the case:
A fire first destroyed the first statue, then it is an earthquake that destroyed the second model ... Finally, the 1st World War delayed its shipment (the sculptor lived in Italy) , so she did not arrive until 1921!
It was initially exposed to Wyman Park, but because of damage, she was placed in the position she still holds ...
And as always, take a little time to stroll around town with us;):
