As the title of the book which I will talk about is inspired from a tale by Poe, let me translate this title as it is to do mine:
The Tell-Tale Corpse , Harold Schechter (remember, by here), published by Ballantine Books.
fourth installment in the series of novels featuring Schechter Poe.
Edgar and Virginia Poe so leave some time New York City to Boston. They attend a show at the Kimball Museum where, among other things, a dentist recited poems and gave a demonstration of nitrous oxide in volunteers from the public.
Shortly after, one of the volunteers is found dead, drowned in a bathtub. Poe is asked by the dentist to help him launder it in this case, and it appears that a guilty taking shape rather quickly.
Later he is charged with their parents escorted the 4 Alcott sisters while on holiday in their uncle in Boston, an uncle who had in his service to the victim. Poe and Virginia just to get to Concord, agree. They are then housed in the Alcott sisters, including Louisa, known Louy, who wants to become a writer, is a tomboy.
Poe takes Virginia with Dr. Faragut, which will prepare him medication. When Poe returned the next day to seek a remedy, however, the doctor has just been assaulted and was robbed of its ingredients. To save
Virginia, Poe vows to do everything to find them.
From New York to Boston, from Boston to Concord, ... Poe Travel and solves riddle enigma, little by little, to finally resolve all the morbid murder case.
Very good historical thriller (but pure fiction, even if some elements are based on real events), as usual with Schechter. Of humor, suspense, twists, and a macabre sense.
bad - to my knowledge anyway - it is not translated into French (although, for this novel, with puns, it might be difficult to translate the desired effect).
