Guatemala, one of the most violent countries in Latin America, has recorded a total of 2,132 murders committed between January and August, according to a report published by the Humanitarian Association of Mutual Aid Group (GAM). During these eight months, 1,812 men, 277 women and 43 children were killed, details the report that the month of January was the most violent with 354 murders. Guatemala City, holds the record with 1,649 killed.
"Guatemala is facing a difficult situation: violence, insecurity, mismanagement of public funds and the phenomena climate contribute to the increase of fear in the population ", the report says. The report, based on the facts in the press, also reported 136 cases of lynching, in which 27 people were killed and 109 others injured. With an average of 18 killed every day, Guatemala is considered one of the most violent countries in Latin America.
